Leo E. Lucey Obituary - January 12, 2013

Moira- World War II Veteran Leo E. Lucey, 97, of Moira, passed away peacefully Saturday (January 12, 2013) at his home with his family at his side. Funeral Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

Leo was born September 3, 1915, in Belmont, NY, son of the late George & Mary (White) Lucey. He united into marriage with Elizabeth (Betty) Perry on October 16, 1946, she predeceased him on May 2, 2002.

He is survived by his five children, Roger Lucey of Madrid, Gloria Haas of Moira, Kathy Coughlin of Malone, Vicky Gliserman of Toronto, Ontario, and Randy Lucey of Malone. Also surviving Leo are six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and a brother George Lucey of Somerworth, NH.

Besides his wife and parents he is predeceased by his six siblings, Thomas, Francis, Kenneth, Stanley, Clara Earl, and Eileen Fisher.

Leo was in the US. Army from September 1941 to September 1945. Three years and three months were spent overseas as an aviation engineer in the Mediterranean Theatre of Operations. Leo was in five invasions two in North Africa, Sicily, Italy, and France.

September 19, 1945 Leo E. Lucey was Honorably Discharged and was highly decorated.

Upon his return, Leo began his employment with Alcoa, retiring in 1977, and became a member of the 25-year club.

Leo was a member of the American Legion #939, Brushton, NY. For sixty-seven years he was their oldest member there and during his time he served as past commander for two terms. He was also a member of the Gold Circle Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Rifle Assoc, and the Sportsman Club.

He enjoyed camping, hunting, snowmobiling, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.

Family and friends are invited to call Tuesday (January 15, 2013) from 2-4 and 6-8 at the Flint Funeral Home, Moira. A Mass of Christian burial celebrating the life of Leo will be held Wednesday at 11am at St. Mary’s Church, Brushton with the Fr. Christopher J. Looby presiding. Interment will be held in the spring in the parish cemetery.

My father, Gormand, who passed in 2008, always enjoyed traveling to Moira and visiting your family. He was so very fond of your grandparents - Uncle Fred and Aunt Ruby.
