Laurie A. Dana Obituary - July 19, 2012

Laurie A. Dana, 42, of North Lawrence passed away Thursday (July 19, 2012) as the result of a car accident.

Arrangements are with the Flint Funeral Home, Moira.

She was born April 5, 1970 the daughter of Robert McCarthy and Mary Garrand. Laurie was a 1988 graduate of Brushton Moira Central School. Laurie received her Masters Degree from SUNY Plattsburgh, majoring in Speech Pathology. August 31, 1996, Laurie united into marriage with Jeffrey Dana at the St. Lawrence Church, North Lawrence. She has been employed as a Speech Pathologist for St. Lawrence Central School, beginning in1992,

Laurie’s passion began at home, with her husband Jeff and her two girls Caitlyn and Lauryn. She is described as a mother who was “in tune” with her children. Whether it be soccer practice, dance lessons, or gymnastic, Laurie always treasured every minute spent with her girls. With a genuine heart, every animal on the family farm trusted and respected her. No matter the size of the pet, they enjoyed seeing her and they brought her much peace. Laurie is remembered for her infectious smile. She had the natural ability to illuminate a room full of family and friends, just by being the loving caring person that she was.

She is survived by he beloved husband Jeffrey, her father Robert (Marlene) McCarthy of Moira, her mother Mary (Carl) Garrand of Brushton, father –in-law Donald Dana of Moira, a brother Timothy (Gina McCarthy) of Brushton, stepsiblings Craig Blanchard and a sister Cheryl Blanchard, Amy Garrand and Amanda, Garrand. Also surviving Laurie are her brother-in-laws Alan Dana of Plattsburgh and her sister-in-law Beth (Chris) Kemp of North Lawrence as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Her two daughters Caitlyn and Lauryn, her grandparents Robert & Elizabeth McCarthy, Lawrence and Laura Mills, predecease her,

Calling hours will be held Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the funeral home.
A combined funeral Mass for the Dana family will be celebrated Tuesday morning at 11am at St. Mary’s Church Brushton, with the Rev. Christopher Looby presiding, and the Rev Gerry Giroux concelebrating the mass. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery and Sand Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of floral offerings, the family has requested that monetary donations in Laurie’s honor be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation at 25 Broadway 14 Floor, New York, NY 10004.

Laurie had become one of my closest friends over the last few years. Caitlyn and Lauryn were also 2 of my daughters best friends and were always at each others houses. They are like daughters to me. I will cherish all our trips to dance competitons and Jay Peak where one them was sure to pull a prank on someone. My thoughts, prayers and love are with you always. Laurie, Caitlyn and Lauryn will be loved and missed forever in our home.

Jeffery,
Our deepest and most sincere sympathy on the death of your wife, Laurie, your daughters, Caitlyn and Lauryn, as well as your mom, Janet Dana. We have precious memories of visiting Laurie and her family when she was a little girl living in the Hudson Valley. I (Claudine) have fond memories of having had your mom as my teacher. We both in recent years met your mom through Paul and Fran Goodrow, as well as seeing her at the conventions of the New York State Retired Teachers Association. You and your entire family are in our thoughts and prayers during this time of profound loss.

Jeff....I haven't seen you in a long time;I guess that's what happens when you move away from home and been gone for years. On a recent trip north I did see Laurie about a year an a half ago at a dance recital at the community center in Brushton. She wore her big pretty smile and was so happy to talk about her life with you and your girls...it was wonderful to hear. I can't imagine what your going through and I'm so sorry. I send prayers of courage and strength to carry you through this tragedy.

Jeff, I am so terribly sorry for your loss. I do not know the proper words to say or if there are even such a thing, as the right words at this time. I just wanted to say that I loved Laurie so much she became a friend to me over the years, My daughter Mckenna and your daughter Lauryn were in the same grade and did the 1st. Communion together. Both of my daughters were in Laurie's speech classes also. She was a very important person to me and helped me so much. We had many many conversations and just as many laughs together. Your daughters were always kind to me and my girls and always had a smile. I just wanted to say that they all meant so much. Again my condolences.. Marnie Daoust

Jeff as you prepare to go on with your life having been changed completely, Laurie, your mom and the girls are looking down upon you smiling and shining radiantly from their new heavenly home. So hard to understand,so hard to except, so hard to believe, but we cannot comprehend the beauty and perfect peace where they now abide with Jesus. They will continue to watch over you,and no without question through Gods infinite Passion you will see them all again one day.
